Theatre Review: Iceland Symphony Orchestra

As somebody who loves music of all genres, whether it be tech metal, rock, 90’s cheese or cheery pop ballads, I saw the visit of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra to Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall as a chance to expand my musical horizon even further by experiencing a completely different show.

How glad I am I went. Having never been to a symphony before I had no idea what to expect, but I have to say I was totally blown away by the performance. I found myself wanting more and completely drawn in, with opening number Metacosmos, especially, a delight which I haven’t stopped listening to since.

Eva Ollikainen was the conductor for the orchestra and you can see why she is the chief conductor, the flawlessness with which she conducted proceedings was just mesmerising and amazing to experience, and I could not take my eyes off just how in sync everybody was throughout the performance. I also couldn’t help but admire the sheer work and practice, not to mention talent, that must go into producing such a fantastic and, as far as I could tell, flawless performance.

It certainly left me wanting to experience more, and I would highly recommend this performance to any body that has the chance to go and see them. You will be in for an absolute treat and a night that truly draws you in and pushes away the rigours of the outside world.
