Magical Theatre in Magical Surroundings

The lives of three children are changed forever by the mysterious disappearance of their father. Finding a new home in a beautiful but isolated village the children make new friends and discover the wonders of the Yorkshire hills and the railway lines scattered throughout them. E. Nesbit’s classic story has delighted adults and children alike for generations and is now brought to life for new audiences in this wonderful production presented in some of the UK and Ireland’s most beautiful open-air venues. With stunning period costume, traditional music and songs and a whole host of unforgettable characters, The Railway Children is a treat for all the family, perfect for a summer evening’s entertainment.

The Railway Children is a brand new show specially produced for audiences this summer. It is the latest offering in a newly cultivated tradition by Chapterhouse in producing fun family shows that tell the stories of well-known and much loved children’s classics. Along with Peter Pan, which is also a brand new production for this summer, The Railway Children will be following in the footsteps of hugely successful shows such as The Wind in the Willows, The Jungle Book and most recently The Secret Garden.

Quotes from the creative team
“The Railway Children has been a delight to adapt, filled with so many memorable moments of courage, heroism, love and friendship. It’s a beautiful story of the strength we all have inside ourselves, set amidst the green and fertile countryside of the rolling Yorkshire hills, reminding us that a little bit of faith, love and trust is sometimes all you need.”  – Laura Turner, Writer.

“I have always loved this story. It’s a classic heart-warming tale of love and trust, and never giving up hope, and I hope this year’s production will prove to be a fun, fast-paced piece of family entertainment.” – Bryony Tebbutt, Director.
