The Birmingham Stage Company, the acclaimed producers of HORRIBLE HISTORIES, GEORGE’S MARVELLOUS MEDICINE and TOM’S MIDNIGHT GARDEN, are bringing David Walliams’ GANGSTA GRANNY to the stage for a national tour including one week at the Theatre Royal Nottingham from 15-19 March 2016.

Walliams, who takes a seat on the Britain’s Got Talent panel and is remembered for the hugely popular Little Britain series, has become the fastest growing children’s author in the UK market. He began his publishing career at Harper Collins in early 2008 with his debut novel, The Boy in the Dress.

After penning three popular stories, Gangsta Granny was published in 2011 and was shortlisted for The Red House Children’s Book Award and for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize in the same year. On the 26th December 2013 Gangsta Granny was aired as a 70-minute television adaption on BBC One on Boxing Day with an all-star cast including Miranda Hart, Robbie Williams, Rob Brydon, Joanna Lumley and David Walliams himself. Today, David’s children’s books have sold over 3.5 million copies in the UK alone. Gangsta Granny went straight to number 1 in the children’s book charts and globally, his books have been translated into no fewer than 30 languages.

“All you can do in this life is follow your dreams. Otherwise you’re just wasting your time” Gangsta Granny

Gangsta Granny is the story of Ben, a bored 11 year old, who hates having to stay in with his old, cabbage-obsessed Granny every Friday night playing Scrabble while his parents go out ballroom dancing. But when he accidentally discovers Gran’s exciting secret, Ben becomes part of the biggest, most daring crime caper ever planned! Suddenly Friday nights become the best part of his whole week!

‘I am over the moon that ‘Gangsta Granny’ is coming to the stage. It’s the most popular of all my books, and I am sure this production by the brilliant Birmingham Stage Company will delight not just children but their parents and of course grandparents’. David Walliams
