Sound Recovery Festival @ Sobar – 16-17 August 2014

Sobar, the East Midlands only non-alcohol bar, restaurant and venue, will be serving up the city’s first alcohol-free music festival this August – and it’s all in support of Double Impact, the charity which runs the venue on Friar Lane.

Double Impact work with individuals from across the city who are recovering from substance misuse, offering them the support and advice they need to build a new life free from dependence on drugs or alcohol.

Taking place the weekend of 16 – 17 August the Sound Recovery Festival will feature a host of great local acts on a line up curated by Nottingham mega-promoters I’m Not From London, who will be playing across the two days with all proceeds going to Double Impact.

Saturday will feature a headline slot from IVERY SERFS, the band formerly known as Great British Weather, one of the most exciting bands in Nottingham, this four piece are one of the hottest tips on the local scene and despite the new name you can expect the same great offbeat sound blending the likes of punk, psych, funk, rock and hip hop.

You can enjoy ragged indie/blues stylings from trio THE LUNADOGS and a blend of blues, rock, jazz and funk from another three-piece THE STOLEN WIVES.

CHLOE CHARLEMAGNE was an artist that made quite the impact when first coming onto the scene early last year, featuring regularly on the NottinghamLIVE Radio Show playlist, after a quiet second half to the year she’s returned in 2014 dishing out sensational R&B infused soul music.

Opening proceedings on the Saturday are one of our favourite new bands of the last year THE BREAKFAST CLUB who’s upbeat, catchy tracks have quickly earned them a fan base, they’ll certainly get the day off to a great start.

On Sunday you’ll be able to round off the event with the roots reggae sounds of THE ITES, a group of Nottingham musicians with over thirty years in the business hailing from projects such as The Natural Ites, The Royal Roots band and Positive Vibes.

Pop singer-songwriter OSCAR SPEED first appeared on our radar last year, having first cropped up on BBC Radio’s The Beat, this year has seen his presence grow, including a spot in the Future Sound of Nottingham final at Rock City in June.

You can expect a dose of Jazz funk from young four piece JIALLO who will have you swinging and jiving with their toe-tapping beats, meanwhile for a different vibe expect a unique take on some of your favourite sounds from the barbershop quartet group QM QUARTET.

There will be soul, gospel and blues from MATT HENSHAW, who recently wowed a packed out Hog and Barrel tent at YNot Festival along with acoustic soul and rock sounds from LEE GOUGH plus chilled out folk sounds from ALICE MACIOBORSKY.

Getting things underway on the Sunday will be opera singer VERONICA BARKER.

Also on the Sunday Arts research group N.O.N (NO OFFICIAL NAME) will be welcoming you into their video booth to explore the Art of Question and you’ll have the chance to meet N.O.N supported artist Richard Reynolds.

Meanwhile Northern Soul DJ Dale Grantham will be spinning some tunes and former Trent Sound presenter Jason Loftus will be master of ceremonies.

Here at NottinghamLIVE we’re happy to officially be supporting this event and we’ll have much more on what’s going on including interviews and features over the coming week, meanwhile you can pick up tickets for the event NOW from here – priced £4 in advance (a fiver on the door) or £7 for both days – and remember all proceeds go to Double Impact to help them continue supporting those recovering from alcohol and drug misuse.
