Children from across the city are being encouraged to celebrate the much-loved Emett Clock’s legacy this month through exclusive activities and workshops. The Emett Clock returned nearly a year ago to the city and intu Victoria Centre will be hosting a dedicated week of celebration to mark the milestone.

The inaugural ‘Emett Week’ will take place between 11 and 17 June and customers will be invited to celebrate the Nottingham landmark which was lovingly restored by the Rowland Emett Society and intu Victoria Centre last year.

Nigel Wheatley, general manager at intu Victoria Centre, said: “We are very proud of the Emett Clock and we wanted to make sure that we celebrated its restoration and return to the centre, creating a legacy for future generations in the city, so we have decided to host an annual ‘Emett Week’ to celebrate the clock.

“We know just what an important part of the city’s history it is and by hosting a celebration week each year, we will be able to make sure that the people of Nottingham know all about just how fantastic the clock is.”

Celebrations will begin on 11-12 June when children will be invited to take part in special art workshops where they will be able to decorate their very own Emett-inspired frog on a lily pad, which have been designed in the shape of the creatures that form part of the clock.

The artwork will then be displayed throughout the week next to the clock for customers to enjoy.

“When we re-launched the clock in its new home last year, we worked with a number of local schools to create a giant hanging mobile inspired by the birds within the clock, so we wanted to do something similar to celebrate its first year,” added Nigel.

“The hanging bird mobile was absolutely fantastic and we know how much the children enjoyed decorating their birds, so we are sure that the frogs will be a real hit with our younger shoppers.”

Art workshops will take place on 11 and 12 June from 11am to 4pm and it is free to take part.

Customers have also been invited to choose a new charity to benefit from the donations collected in the clock’s pool. The charity that received the most votes will be announced during Emett Week.
