axophonist Tommaso Starace is joined by vocalist Roger Bird, pianist Wendy Kirkland and Pat Sprakes on double bass at the Farndon Boathouse this Friday November 2 from 8pm.    Flok is a jazz fusion trio from Sheffield featuring Matthew Malone on keys, Harry Poxon on bass and Sam de Wolf on drums; they perform at Peggy’s Skylight in Hockley from 8.40pm, tickets are £9/6 concessions in advance via Peggy’s website.  Ben Martin plays guitar for singer Mandy Tatton alongside bassist Simon Paterson at the Pelican Club in the Lace market from 10pm.
Elliott ‘fastest fingers in the west’ Lewis plays gypsy jazz on his guitar with Si Potts on drums and Mat Short on bass guitar at Stray’s in Newark from 3-5pm on Saturday November 3. Expect a night of upbeat Latin jazz, funk and swing numbers when saxophonist Matt Telfer and his band play the Best of Blue Note at Peggy’s Skylight; Matt is joined by Gabor Dornyei on drums, Miles Danso on double bass and Liam Dunachie on the grand piano, tickets are £12 on the website.

On Sunday November 4, The Lion in Basford’s lunchtime session features guitarist Nik Svarc’s Organ Trio from 1.30-3.30pm.  Ed Marchewics on tenor sax and flute is joined by Barry Lee on keys at the Brewhouse and Kitchen on Trent Bridge from 2pm-4pm.  Pianist Stephen Sherriff is performing at Peggy’s Skylight with trumpeter Bryan Corbett from 2pm tickets are between £4-8.
Jazz Steps welcome to The Bonington Theatre in Arnold internationally acclaimed saxophonist Tommy Smith who pays homage to his greatest inspiration, saxophone icon John Coltrane on Thursday November 8. His new quartet features one of the UK’s leading young piano talents, Peter Johnstone (a former Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year) bassist Calum Gourlay (a young veteran of gigs with Sheila Jordan, Scott Hamilton and The SNJO) and Sebastiaan de Krom who has been the drumming powerhouse behind Herbie Hancock and Jamie Callum. Tickets are £15/5 NUS from the theatre and music starts at 8pm.
Where no entry fee is mentioned please spend plenty of money in the venue to support the live musicians.
