It’s bank holiday weekend next weekend and that means a plethora of gigs to choose from as you celebrate an extra day off work. We’ve tried to narrow down your choices a bit but whatever you’re after there is plenty to enjoy.

Live @ The Golden Fleece – Thursday 21 August

If you’re looking to kick start your weekend a little early then the recently refurbed Golden Fleece is the place to be this Thursday with some great live music – and, as always, it’s totally free.

This promises to be a nice chilled out evening with acoustic performances from RICHARD FENWICK, DAVID LACEY, LAUREN APRIL, JOEL BLACK and TOM MCCARTNEY, and could well be the ideal way to ease yourself into a weekend of bank holiday madness.

Lace Squared Launch Event – Lace Market Square – Friday 22 August

Initially due to take place last Friday the official launch event for Lace Squared was moved to this coming Friday so whether you attended the special event at Bar JuJu last week, or not, get on down to the Lace Market Square for some great entertainment this weekend.

There will be a mix of live music, tasty treats and fairground themed cocktails to kick off a series of weekend events to take place in the underused part of the Lace Market over the next few weeks.

With the likes of MuHa, Ram1, The Hargreaves, Frankie Rudolf, Ashmore and many more set to perform at the event over the coming weeks we highly recommend getting along, there will also be vintage fairs, arts and craft markets, street entertainment and much more.

Revenge of Calculon, 8mm Orchestra & I Am Lono – Nottingham Contemporary – Saturday 23 August

I have no idea if REVENGE OF CALCULON’S name is inspired by the ‘actor’ robot in Futurama, however I do know that this fuzz-bass ‘n’ dirt-synth duo wear 80’s style tracksuits and luchador masks and were formed by the folks behind the ace Spaceships are Cool, so therefore are well worth checking out.

What’s more with the ace 8MM ORCHESTRA, performing a rare Nottingham show, and the always great I AM LONO also on the bill this is looking like a top night at Nottingham Contemporary.

Plus it’s free. Doors are at 8pm and the live music starts at 9.
