Looking Ahead: Gigs of the week – 13 – 19 July 2013

As always Nottingham is awash with fantastic gigs over the coming week and as always we have tried our best to pick out a selection of them for you – though there are of course many more throughout the week well worth checking out.

So here are this weeks picks, hope you can get down to some:

Thurs – Ambiance – Jamcafe – 8pm – Free

The Jamcafe’s excellent Thursday night event – Ambiance – continues to get better and better and this week they have lined up five great acts for you to enjoy as you prepare to welcome the weekend.

You may not have heard of GUIDEBOOKS but you have almost surely heard of this husband and wife duo’s other band Rue Royale who have toured across the globe. Now they have teamed up with producer Paul Pilot for this brand new band and tonight they make their debut.

Expect to be enchanted by weird and creepy music that uses samples the band have collected while touring the world.

Also on the line up will be the truly sensational and distinctive BEN HAYNES, Hereford singer KEY GREEN, Royston Duxford and Kundalini member ARWEL HUGHES will be thrilling us with wonderful urban folk sounds while there will be great original acoustic tracks from RICHARD HOWELL.

It all kicks off at 8 but as you all know Jamcafe always gets, well, jammed, so get down early.

Thurs – Macmillan Fest Acoustic/Indie Battle of the Bands Heat 3 – The Maze – 7pm – £4

Macmillan Fest returns this September and is looking bigger and better than ever and, as always organisers IKE Productions have been busy running Battle of the Bands competitions to offer local acts the chance to appear on this years line up.

This Thursday, at The Maze, the third heat in the Indie/Acoustic battle will take place and it promises to be a classic with five fantastic Nottingham acts battling it out for two places in the finals.

Ace acoustic rock trio HUNTING HELEN, acoustic guitar and loop pedal maestro JOSH KEMP, the wonderful EMMA BLADON JONES, fast rising seventeen year old singer-songwriter JOSH WHEATLEY and the always great MARC REEVES will all be battling out to move on to the next stage and the possibility of playing at one of Nottingham’s best annual festivals.

This promises to be a fantastic night and at only £4 is not to be missed.

Fri – Acoustic Night – Bunkers Hill – 8pm – Free

Want to see some great acoustic music? Want to see it for free? Well then get down to Bunkers Hill on Friday and you can do just that where four top acts will be performing for your pleasure.

Beeston singer-songwriter ROSH RAI is one of the best musical talents on the Nottingham scene with a fabulous voice and wonderful, catchy lyrics.

Twenty-one year old MATT GOLD mixes up great originals and his own distinct cover versions to deliver a fabulous set that is not to be missed.

One of the fastest rising young talents on the Nottingham scene SAM JONES has just been announced as one of the finalists in the 2013 Future Sound of Nottingham competition meaning he will be playing the Rock City main stage and competing for a chance to open the main stage at Splendour – Get down to Bunkers Hill to catch a young singer on the brink of something special.

Rounding things off is Mansfield acoustic singer WARREN IRELAND who mixes folk and blues to create his own great sound.

Sat – ‘Mrs Green’ Fundraiser – Grosvenor – 9pm – Free

For something a lil’ different this Saturday head on up to the Grosvenor on Mansfield Road for an appearance from the one and only Mrs Green.

This event is being held to help Mrs Green take her show up to Edinburgh for this years’ Fringe Festival and there will be loads going on – including a cast auction!

Performing on the night will be next weeks NottinghamLIVE Radio Show guests THE AFTERDARK MOVEMENT, plus SABRINA & SAM, ORIGIN ONE, DJ KURTZ and a special set hosted by YOUTHORACLE and BRU-C.

It all kicks off at 9pm.

Sat – Bunkers Hill Live – Bunkers Hill – 8pm – £3.50

As well as fantastic free acoustic gigs on a Friday night – see above – there is also great live music to be had at Bunkers Hill on a Saturday, with a great line up taking over this weekend.

THE ESTABLISHMENT are a Nottingham indie rock band with a growing reputation, featuring ex-Forest man John Burns and managed by former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin, these guys have played across the UK – and even at an FA Cup Final, well worth checking out you can watch the video to their latest track Jennifer Jones – featuring the likes of Stuart Pearce, Des Walker and Teddy Sheringham among others – below:

Also appearing will be THE STEADY SOUND – with a full band and TOM KANE, with more to be announced.
