Looking Ahead: Gigs of the week – 1 – 7 August 2013

Festival season is still in its midst, with YNot the big draw this week, featuring around 16 Nottingham artists, look out for our full preview of that shortly, however for those not travelling to the Peak District this weekend there is still plenty on in our fair city – in fact there are some awesome shows this week.

Thurs – Kane Ashmore Single Launch – The Alleycafe – 8.30pm – Free

Kane Ashmore is an artist that has recently come onto our radio via the radio show and one that has quickly become a favourite of mine. Thursday he releases the brilliant, not to mention catchy, single The Ashmore Show, with a show at The Alleycafe courtesy of I’m Not From Brooklyn – the hip-hop promotion arm of the I’m Not From London crew.

If you haven’t yet heard Kane Ashmore you’re missing a treat as he mixes creative, inspired lyrics with a wonderful hip-hop beat that defies his eighteen years.

Offering up support on the night will be Nottingham hip-hop group L.A.D.S aka Legend’s Aren’t Destroyed Simply and the excellent MIZZRED ELEMENTAL

Meanwhile there will be some acoustic gems outside courtesy of Under the Tree with performances from ROBYN HUGHES JONES, MYSTERY WHITE BOY, DAUDI MATISKO, ALICE MACIBORSKYJ and MARTIN JACKSON.

It’s all FREE and it kicks off at 8.30pm

Fri – Blow-Out Nottingham – The Corner – 7pm – £4 adv/£5 otd

It’s staggering to think but our friends over at LeftLion are about to celebrate their TENTH BIRTHDAY, and, this being LeftLion, they’re planning to do it in style with one hell of a night at their home The Corner.

Teaming up with I’m Not From London (who else?) Blow-Out is their bi-monthly magazine launch party night but this month it’s also a birthday party as the magazine that helped the Nottingham music scene go BOOM marks it’s first decade with a proper Notts party featuring some of their friends and favourites from the city scene.

Topping the bill is a big time MYSTERY GUEST, the only thing we know about this guest is that their male and used to playing much bigger shows – so we’ll leave you to guess at who it might be, we sure  have our own ideas.

2012 Future Sound of Nottingham winners THE AFTERDARK MOVEMENT, who, incidentally launch their new EP the following night – see below – will also be on the bill,

Musical producing stars THE ELEMENTZ will be performing a rare set along with friends ESTHER VAN LEUVEN, KARIZMA, SKI and FRAZER LOWRIE, plus there will be a set from CAPPO, who’s new album G3T OUT is available now.

The awesome STIFF KITTENS will be spinning tunes on the DJ decks as always.

Meanwhile on the acoustic stage you can catch the brilliant GALLERY 47, 2013 Future Sound of Nottingham runner up SAM JONES, JOHN MARRIOTT and RAPHAEL ACHACHE.

This promises to be a party to remember so get on down to The Corner this Friday and wish the great folks over at LeftLion a happy 10th birthday.

Who knows maybe they’ll even be cake!

Fri – The Afterdark Movement ‘Six Minds’ EP Launch – The Maze – 8pm – £3

Launching a brand new EP is a pretty exciting time, and when that EP is anticipated as much as the latest offering from THE AFTERDARK MOVEMENT, then you know they’re going to do it in style, and they have not disappointed as they go all out with an almost festival like line up for the launch of Six Minds on Saturday.

Over 20 of Nottingham’s best will take to The Maze for a celebration of the 2012 Future Sound of Nottingham winners new release and it looks like being a night not to miss.

The Afterdark Movement will of course headline the night and you can look forward to tracks from the new EP including the excellent new single Days Go By – check out the video below, as well as, no doubt, some old faves.

There will also be main stage DJ sets from N3ON, FABLE, FLOUCH and TUMBLE.

The band have also enlisted the help of acoustic promoting supremos Under the Tree for the upstairs acoustic stage and they’ll be bringing you sets from HEAVYHEADS, LEAH SINEAD, RICHARD HARLEY, JAMIE MOON, TASHA DEAN, YAZMIN LACEY and MICHAEL LYNCH.

Meanwhile on the Bar Stage you can see THE G.O.A CHOIR, YOUTHORACLE, and Open mic set and DOPE THIRTEEN B2B BEATMASTA BILL.
