Art: Day Dreaming at The Harley Gallery During Half-Term

Hands on Holidays - 1st June at The Harley Gallery

Creative children can get hands-on during half term, designing their very own ‘dream-catcher’ as part of the ‘Hands on Holidays’ workshops at The Harley Gallery, on the Welbeck Estate near Worksop.

Designed to inspire creativity in children, the one hour workshops are part of a series of events led by the Harley’s Education and Engagement Manager, Dayle Green. Children will learn the basics of weaving and experiment with colours, textures and patterns to create their own ‘dream-catcher’, a magical woven web which in some Native American cultures was hung over a child’s bed to catch bad dreams.

The workshops run from 11am-midday and midday-1pm on Wednesday 1 June and are priced at £2.50 per child. With limited places available, sessions must be pre-booked and children accompanied by an adult at all times. Call 01909 501700 to book.

Dayle said: “The Harley Gallery offer a variety of sessions for children and families, inspiring a love for creativity.  Our Hands on Holidays workshops are always extremely popular so we encourage families to book their place to avoid disappointment.”

May half term also marks the final week of The Grand Tour Season Two exhibition, featuring pop art pioneer Sir Peter Blake, best known for The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, and internationally renowned artist Rose English. Also on display, visitors can visit the treasures of The Portland Collection in the new gallery. Entry to both exhibitions is FREE.
