Theatre Review: Twelfth Night

Wellington Circus last night became a ‘play’ ground filled with pranks, laughter, banter, vibrant costumes  bringing joyful delight to all.

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare is full of great one liners. Such as ‘If music be the food of love play on..’   Our cast of 4 very talented performers got their chance to sing about love and at times encouraged the audience to join in.

The happy throng were up for everything last night and were happy to cheer and sing when called upon to do so.  Normally an adult audience needs the lubricant of alcohol to get so involved, but this was strictly not allowed and not needed, soft drinks only inside this circus.

So our main characters were Oliva the main love interest played by Lisa Ambalavanar, and Viola (notice an anagram of Oliva) both women.  Both had recently lost loved ones.  Viola performed by Charlotte East, swapped to playing the role of her male on the request of her master Orsino, to win the love of Olivia.  One famous part line from Twelfth night, uttered by Viola ‘I am not what I play..’ Viola pretence wins Olivia’s attention and heart.

In amongst all this delightful chaos we have all the sounds coming from the street around Nottingham Playhouse which the cast dealt with humour.

Two more mentions, before I finish this review, the coconuts that should have had their own billing and the hilarious performances of AK Golding.

Twelfth Night is on at Nottingham Playhouse until July 29th it is fun .
