Review:EVENING OF AMERICAN BLUE GRASS APRILLE AND THE SHOWER

image

Last night we sat full of expectation, the audience had on their checked shirts ready for a good night of foot tapping, joyful, escapism.
It started well the first number was purely an instrumental, the fiddle player and the banjo player shone.
We then had a number written by an American soldier serving in Vietnam written to his sweetheart.

‘Are you waiting for me’ not great vocals but yet again the supporting fiddle and banjo player held it together. Then we heard some off colour banter which in my opinion was chauvinistic and offensive but before the first half ended, we even had ‘fart’ jokes, nasty!

The tunes continued in a non tuneful way ‘Stonewall around my Heart’ , ‘Crazy Beat’ ‘Wagonwheel’ I said it was escapism music, and that’s what a third of the audience decided at the half time interval.
One of my fellow leavers said it ‘would have been bearable at a drunken Rugby club after the local team had won’. Enough said; but please be reassured that every other time, we have been to a third stage production at the Theatre Royal, it has been of top quality, don’t be put off!
