NottinghamNEWS: Speed Dating business owner facing closure, changes business model overnight

With the news from the Government to close all bars and restaurants in-definitely, it looked like the end for Slow Dating, a Speed Dating event company that relies on bars to host events. It also meant an uncertain future for the 75 people it employs.

Not wanting to lose his business, single dad and owner Chris Grayston has decided to take his live events company online.

Chris explained “We have to try something new, as if the bars are going to be shut until end of April, it means we can’t reschedule events until the end of May at the earliest. That will cripple us as a business, not to have any events for two or more months and thus end of the company, which has been running successfully for 15 years.

“Also, I thought this is going to be a very isolating and lonely time for people if they are unable to go out and socialize. There must be a way to keep things running safely and as normal as possible”

Chris has already faced challenges single handedly bringing up his daughter and son who suffers from ADHD whilst at the same time running his business.

Dating doesn’t have to go on hold

From April, Slow Dating will be offering singles all around the UK the chance to socialize and date, all without having to leave the house.

How online speed dating works

With so much unexpected restriction when it comes to going out and meeting people, if you are looking for that special someone or just fancy a fun night talking to new people, live online speed dating is perfect for you.

From the safety and comfort of your own home, participants will be invited to click on a link to chat live one-on-one with singles local to them. Just like any live event, once everyone has logged on to our online platform, we will briefly explain the format of the evening. Then participants will invited to speak privately with each lady or gentlemen in the group that evening, until they have spoken to everyone in turn.

It’s a hugely fun way to meet up with people whilst self-isolating.

·        Each date lasts four minutes to enable a private chat with every one of your dates.

·        Once the four minutes is up, you are paired with your next date.

Four minutes is a long enough time to find out if you click with the person you are talking to. It is also a short enough time if you don’t want to talk to them again too.

At the end of each date there is a brief pause to make some notes on the person they have just dated. These notes will assist for the post event matching process the next day.
