NottinghamLAUGH: November 2013

In this brand new feature we take a look at the best of the months upcoming comedy shows, Nottingham is blessed with a great selection of venues for live comedy from the huge Arena showcasing some of the world’s biggest names down to small shows at the likes of The Canalhouse, not to mention established comedy clubs The Glee Club, Jongleurs and Just The Tonic.

Here we pick out some of the best shows coming up in November.

Capital FM Arena

Micky Flanagan

Micky Flanagan

Cockney comic MICKY FLANAGAN will stop off at the Arena for a three night performance this month. Following the huge success of his sell-out 2012 tour – Micky Flanagan Live: The Out Out Tour – the DVD of which was the biggest selling comedy DVD of 2012 – the comic is back on the road for his new show The Back in the Game tour and he stops off in Nottingham from 14-16 November. Hugely popular on shows such as Mock the Week, 8 out of 10 Cats and Live at The Apollo this promises to be a fun filled show that isn’t afraid to sail close to the wind. Tickets are available now from the Capital FM website.

Royal Concert Hall

A trio of top tele comics stop off at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall this month, however you can be sure of three VERY different shows.

Controversial ladies man RUSSELL BRAND is in town tonight and tomorrow night with his latest show Messiah Complex, something Russell has often been accused of by media and public alike – not least in response to his recent Editorial for the New Statesman in which he called for a political revolution.

Greg Davies

Greg Davies

On Monday 18 November giant funny man GREG DAVIES brings his intriguingly titled show The Back of my mums head to Nottingham. Best known as the grumpy head of sixth-form Mr Gilbert in C4 mega hit The Inbetweeners Davies is back at his surreal best on his new show Man Down currently showing on Channel 4. Expect something more akin to that show when he takes to the RCH stage this month.

JASON MANFORD rounds up the trio when he comes to Nottingham on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 November. Always charismatic and with a laid back charm you can expect the usual quick banter, witty anecdotes and comedy mishap stories from the Manchester comedian.

Nottingham Playhouse

Al Murray

Al Murray

Forget Paul Ince, everybody knows the real Guv is everybody’s favourite pub landlord AL MURRAY and he is back in Nottingham on Sunday 3 November expect more virtues of the brilliance of Britain and the great British pint (white wine or fruit based drink for the ladies) and great audience banter from one of the most enjoyable comics on the circuit.

Best known for his Radio 4 work, most notably on New’s Quiz, I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue and Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation insightful comic JEREMY HARDY will be at the Nottingham Playhouse on Tuesday 19 November.

A year and a half ago SEAN HUGHES’ father died, dealing with it in the only way he knew how Sean has put together his latest show Life Becomes Noises, a poignant yet funny insight into the lighter side of dying and getting older.

Last year CHRIS RAMSEY was “sent off” the Soccer Am sofa for misbehaving, the result of which is his new tour The Most Dangerous Man on Saturday Morning TV – in which the comedian questions that very fact. Fresh from his sold out, twice extended 2012 tour and a starring role in excellent BBC2 show Hebburn Chris is back on the road and showing why he is one of the fastest rising names on the comedy circuit.

Tickets for all these shows, subject to availability, can be ordered from the website

The Glee Club

As ever The Glee Club has a huge line up of comedy throughout the month with its regular Friday/Saturday night comedy shows with THE NOISE NEXT DOOR, LLOYD LANGFORD, ANDREW BIRD and ROMESH RANGANATHAN among those performing this month.

Plus there is a whole selection of touring shows stopping off at the hugely acclaimed venue.

Shappi Khorsandi

Shappi Khorsandi

First up is the hugely talented SHAPPI KHORSANDI, back with a brand new show for 2013 and now a mother Shappi is one of the most exciting performers out there at the moment and not afraid to talk about any subject – just listen to her recent Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast appearance if you doubt that.  Shappi will be at Glee on Wednesday 6th.

A day later and TONY LAW will be bringing his latest show Nonsense Overdrive to Nottingham following his sell-out Spring tour. If you haven’t seen Tony Law before then I’m not really sure how best to describe him – other than bizarre – and if you have you’ll know what I mean; either way this is a show that will be well worth checking out.

On Friday 8th of November will be musical comedy from AMATEUR TRANSPLANTS. Frontman Adam Kay sits at a grand piano and sings smutty songs. He’s had three number one albums on itunes and over 20 million YouTube hits and when the one and only Stephen Fry says of your work “this made me very, very happy” you know you’re on to a winner.

Thursday 14 November sees award-winning comic JARED CHRISTMAS bring his latest show to town while fast rising star CHARLIE BAKER is here on the 27th following a sell-out Edinburgh run.

Finally on Thursday 28 there is double the fun from Edinburgh Comedy Award winner ROISIN CONATY, plus MATT GREEN.
