PRESTIGIOUS guests took to the stage at the final Nottingham Means Business (NMB) member lunch of the year (20 November), an event sponsored by Arup and held at Nottingham Racecourse.

As part of the lunch NMB members heard from two guest speakers, Mark Fahy, head of UK SMEs at the London Stock Exchange, and NMB’s former chairman Paul Southby, who is now chair of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Simon Gray, chief executive of Nottingham Means Business, said: “The aim of this lunch was to provide members and guests with information about the activities of the London Stock Exchange in the region and to give an update on the progress of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, the new place marketing organisation for the city and county.”

Mark Fahy explained to NMB’s members how the London Stock Exchange works to support businesses through its ELITE UK programme. During his speech, Mark drew focus on the East Midlands, examining the trends in the IPO market and setting out benefits and challenges for companies that may consider an IPO as part of their future growth strategy.

The final speaker, Paul Southby, explained how Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire would work to promote the city and county to inward investors, business and leisure visitors. As part of his presentation, Paul also shared how he envisaged NMB would work with the new organisation.

Nottingham Means Business now has more than 230 members and being a member of the organisation enables firms to take part in an array of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire focused events, including business lunches, sector specific events and social gatherings – all organised by Nottingham Means Business to encourage collaboration and investment across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Simon added: “We would like to thank both of our speakers, and Arup for sponsoring the event. We are also looking forward to January, when we will be kicking off the year with our biggest NMB lunch ever, which will be sponsored by and held at Nottingham Trent University.”

Although this was the final business lunch of the year hosted by NMB, there will be a final Christmas drinks event for members (16 December) at Park Plaza Hotel sponsored by Russell Scanlan.
