gamecity8

This weekend sees the return of the brilliant GameCity, the UK’s best cultural gaming event and it’s bigger and better than ever – it all kicks off on Friday with a stunning pixelated fireworks show in the Market Square – more on that to follow – and runs for eight days with events at venues across the city.

One such venue taking part in this year’s event is the Royal Concert Hall who will be offering a week of gaming and musical merriment. Events will take place each 5-7pm each evening from Monday 21 to Friday 25 October and the bar will be open, what’s more it’s free entry.

You can find out more about the gaming going on here

Music during the week will be courtesy of:

Monday: SAM JONES

Sam has had a pretty great 2013, from runner up in the Future Sound of Nottingham final – and being named Judge’s Choice – to performing at the Ashes and opening the Courtyard Stage at Splendour it’s been quite a ride for the young singer from Mansfield who was our guest on the NottinghamLIVE Radio Show last week.

You can check our interview with Sam after his Splendour appearance below, but, more importantly check him out at the RCH on Monday night.

Tuesday: LEE GOUGH

On Tuesday you can catch a performance from the excellent Lee Gough who delivers cracking live performances filled with heart, one of the most promising stars on the scene Lee blends indie, rock and soul to deliver incredibly exciting and catchy sounds.

Wednesday: RYAN THOMAS

If you follow Nottingham’s acoustic music scene – and you really should – you’ll almost certainly be familiar with Ryan Thomas. Ryan delivers a bluesy folk sound that makes for a great sound and his gigs are always well worth catching.

Thursday: ALEXA HAWKSWORTH

Alexa is an extremely talented singer on the Nottingham scene who will be performing a mix of classic covers and wonderful original material all delivered by a fantastic folk voice and wonderful acoustic guitar style.

Friday: GEORGIE ROSE + DAUDI MATSIKO

There can’t be many people in Nottingham who have played as many great shows as Georgie Rose has over the last 18 months or so, from performing alongside Rizzlekicks at Camden Roundhouse to playing Splendour, YNot and even Nottingham Rocks at the Theatre Royal Georgie has played at, and starred at some of the best festivals in the area. A fantastic talent with a host of celebrity fans including Billy Bragg and KT Tunstell we highly suggest checking Georgie Rose out – if you haven’t seen her perform already.

For a taster you can listen to her NottinghamLIVE Radio Show session from earlier this year below:

Daudi Matsiko is a member of the English/German collective High Hopes Society, this Friday he will be appearing solo, performing captivating, delicate, amazing songs.
