There will also be a screening of Dark Glasses the first film from acclaimed horror director Dario Argento in a decade.

Friday 14 sees a rare screening of The Appointment, the 1982 Edward Woodward-starring supernatural shocker, followed by a UK premiere with the screening of the third and final part of the Birdemic franchise Birdemic 3: Sea Eagle. Also on Friday will be the sci-fi tale Incredible But True and the night wraps up with the critically acclaimed Mexican supernatural body horror Huesera.

Saturday starts with animated fantasy Unicorn Wars which tells the bloody tale of a war between teddy bears and unicorns (yes really). It is followed by Vesper, starring Eddie Marsan and Raffiella Chapman.

Then comes the special BFI Film Audience Network (BFI FAN) supported ‘Night of the Cat’ one of four special commissions by leading horror film festivals around the UK with two rare film screenings of Kaneto Shindo’s 1969 Japanese horror Kuroneko – translated at The Black Cat – and will be accompanied by a kaleidoscopic live original score from Nottingham-based artist Yumah (aka Lucy Morrow. Then in the late-night slot will be a special 30th-anniversary screening of Stephen King’s 1992 film Sleepwalkers.

The final day of the festival starts with Freaks Out, from Mayhem favourite Gabriele Mainetti, followed by the UK premiere of Jethica, a deadpan ghost story that twists the crazed stalker genre on its head.

Then comes the violent, action-packed No Looking Back from the minds behind Why Don’t You Just Die! The final movie of Mayhem 2022 is the Maika Monroe starring Watcher which tells the story of a young American woman who suspects the man watching her from across the building is a serial killer.

A limited number of full festival passes are available for £85, while individual tickets are also on sale now.
