Food: VIP Relaunch, No/6 Bar, St James Hotel, Nottingham

The red carpet was rolled out for the Official VIP relaunch of the No/6 bar on Friday September 25

The evening event had kicked off at the boutique bar, situated inside St James Hotel on Rutland Street at 6.30. We arrived 7.45 by which point the evening was already in full swing, with over 250 VIP guests attending throughout the night.

Handed a glass of bubbly, we made our way through the sumptuous refurbished bar which has been installed with trendy light fittings, fabulous sofas, book shelves and tv screens, which tonight displayed the welcoming effect of an open fire, making for a cosy atmosphere in the dimly lit pub.

Entertainment was provided by Richie Howells, Rachel Jessica and Mood Indigo as the Canapés were passed around. We tried a mini chilli burger which was flavoursome but they then quickly moved onto the desserts. We’d clearly missed the savoury section. Worse news was still to come as after two glasses of fizz, we were told they’d run out – at 8.30!

Richard Johal, Drew Shearwood, and Harjeet Johal

We had a snoop around the Left Gallery, a trendy area installed with huge modern white sofas, an area which showcases a unique photography exhibition featuring work from Southwell photographer Drew Shearwood from his first solo exhibition entitled ‘This World’. The 23-year-old has produced some eye-catching images around the globe with musician Sir Elton John collecting a piece of his work most recently.

Shearwood has assisted internationally acclaimed American photographer David La Chapelle earlier this year too and customers will also be able to purchase some of Shearwood’s best pieces.

THE NO/6 bar opened its doors to the public on Saturday September 26 with a number of enticing offers for the relaunch on its new cocktail selection.

Hotel manager Richard Johal said: “We’ve worked hard to create a stylish bar perfect for gatherings which I’m sure the city will love’ “It was a fantastic evening of glitz and glamour as we welcomed the great and good of Nottingham to our relaunch.

“It was fantastic to see so many of the city’s personalities enjoying their time at the No/6 Bar, tasting our new cocktail menu and being entertained by the music and the fantastic art on show.

“We’d like to thank everyone for making it a night to remember and we look forward to seeing many of our guests throughout the weekend and weeks to come and return to the bar for our upcoming musical and artistic events over the coming months.”

The hotel will also be hosting themed nights, Christmas parties and weekly entertainment before the end of the year.

Customers can take advantage of a number of offers on Saturday only, including two for one on house drinks and a bottle of house wine for only £8 when purchased with a platter.

Overall I liked the bar. It has the same kind of qualities as the old Lace Market Hotel bar so I will be back, but as for launch night, we had to nip off early to get ourselves some food.
