Food: The Nottingham Cookbook – Second Helpings Launch Night- Alchemilla Restaurant

 

Over 100 people from the world of food and drink attended the official launch of the new Nottingham Cookbook – Second Helpings at Alex Bonds’ fabulous Alchemilla Restaurant on Monday evening.

Guests were greeted with a complimentary glass of fizz or Starkey’s apple juice, with an additional complimentary drink from the bespoke bar menu created by Alex for the night using Bluebird Tea and Starkey’s produce. The result was some amazing cocktails

Plenty of delicious food was available for all tastes, served buffet style from the businesses featured – Scotch Eggs, brownies, kebabs, sausage rolls, scones, cake, doughnuts and lots more were enjoyed by guests and just some of the goodies you can try your hand at making from the new book.

The Sauce Shop, The Black Bull at Blidworth, The Bakehouse, Memsaab, Rustic Crust, School of Artisan Food, Toast, Homemade, Bluebird Tea Company and many other Notts foodie businesses attended well as Anna and Kerre from Meze Publishing, the company behind the book.

The publication follows the huge success of the first Nottingham Cook Book, published in 2014 which sold over 9,000 copies.  As the food scene has continued to thrive in Nottingham, the decision was made the produce a sequel.

The second edition features over 45 recipes, aiming to promote vibrant cuisines and put the focus on the talented individuals behind Nottingham’s finest food producers, restaurants, café, bars, pubs, farm shops, and delicatessens. Not only that, each chapter delves into the history of each local business; discover how they came about, their secret to success and what makes them unique.

This cookbook is all about championing independent businesses. It gives an insight into the creation of signature recipes and allows you to recreate them from the comfort of your own home or perhaps use it as a guide for where to eat out in Nottingham. Perfect for you or the foodie in your life.

Head chef and owner of fine dining restaurant Alchemilla, Alex Bond wrote the foreword for the book. He contributed an exclusive recipe of black pudding, smoked eel, beetroot to inspire readers to dust off their apron.
