What’s On: SUMMER ARRIVES TO THE CITY WITH THE OPENING OF PLAYA DAY CLUB & RESTAURANT AND NOTTINGHAM BEACH

Playa Day Club

The Playa Day Club & Restaurant and Nottingham’s famous Beach in Old Market Square have opened for the people of Nottingham and visitors to the city to enjoy this summer.

The luxury beach club with pop-up restaurant-bar is a first for the city, drawing its inspiration from beach clubs from overseas and bringing a touch of class and glamour to the city centre.

Nottingham Beach, which has proved to be a popular family attraction for many years has also opened and it is bigger and better than ever before with more sand and even more entertainment.

A number of traditional rides and attractions as well as a beach bar and barbeque are in place for people to enjoy and the entertainment schedule is packed full of live music from local bands and artists, movie nights under the stars, beach volleyball tournaments and Just Ben hosting Variety on the Beach.  As usual it will be free of charge and open to everyone throughout the school holidays.

Playa Day Club & Restaurant will be for over 18s only and will be open daily from 10am for just six weeks with a dress to impress code.  Guests will be able to enjoy a VIP experience as they relax and soak up the sun on pool-side style day beds normally seen gracing the sandy shores of the Mediterranean, whilst sipping a summery cocktail and enjoying live music and entertainment.

The stylish restaurant at Playa Day Club is being headed up by Nottingham celebrity chef, Laurence Henry who recently won BBC MasterChef: The Professionals. With indoor and outdoor seating, it will be the perfect location for friends to get together and more businesses to entertain clients and guests as it becomes the place for city workers to gather for after-work drinks and sharing platters.

Keeping to beach club traditions, special Brunch events will be taking place on various Sundays throughout the summer: 14 July, 4 August and 25 August 2019.

The company behind this summer’s entertainment offer in Old Market Square is the Mellors Group.  For the Playa Day Club they have teamed up with club promotions ACES Events, who will be organising live entertainment which will include a programme of DJ performances late afternoon and into the evening every Saturday.

“We hope that people enjoy the return of the popular Nottingham Beach which will be great for families during the school holidays but we are also delighted that we have been able to introduce something more aspirational in the form of the Playa Day Club to cater for a different market.  This means that there will be something for everyone in Nottingham city centre this summer,” said Edward Mellors, a director of the Mellors Group.

Cllr Dave Trimble – Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture at Nottingham City Council said: “We are very happy to be able to bring the Beach back for the people of Nottingham. It is a great place to spend time with the family in the summer and to have a fun day out and a great holiday experience for free. People can spend the whole day there or just pop out for a break at lunchtime or after work. The entertainment offer is also great from beach sports, to films, to live music. Having the Playa Day club this year offers a new dimension and a different kind of holiday experience for people and we look forward to seeing how our visitors enjoy these two very different spaces.”

Chef Laurence Henry said: “I am delighted to be involved in this exciting new project in my home town of Nottingham.  I’m looking forward to local people having the opportunity to taste the dishes that we have created especially for the restaurant at Playa Day Club.”

Places will be limited at Playa Day Club and Restaurant so people are encouraged to book in advance to reserve places and tables by going to www.playadayclub.co.uk. The price paid will be transferred to a bar credit on arrival.
