Theatre Review: The Stickman

Julia Donaldson’s and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man is delightfully brought to life by Scamp Theatre this week at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal. It is a true minimalist masterpiece that seems to combine contemporary performance art with the well loved genre of pantomime.

What was truly great about this show is that it really captured the imagination and attention of even the youngest members of the audience, although aimed at 3+ there were a few little toddlers having a proper giggle throughout the show. With some well timed audience participation and songs the 55 minutes flew by. The cast of three were a wonderfully engaging trio that worked very well together.

Perhaps the first in a line of shows coming to the theatres in, dare I say it, the beginning of the Christmas season, this show does feature Santa so if you aren’t quite prepared to embrace the festive season quite yet, sneak out 10 minutes before the end of the show!

Stick Man is showing at Theatre Royal this evening and tomorrow
