Anybody for murder?

The opening night of the murder mystery series was well recieved by the audience. I personally found it strained and paceless. The humor injected in only hit mild hilarity when a plate fell off the set. The actors went with it and made it work to the audiences amusement. The dialogue wasn’t tight and it didn’t seem like anyone was reacting to what was being said but just remembering lines.

The second half tightened up a bit and got a few more laughs in the right places. What was frustrating was at the end the audience was subjected to a ‘luvvie tax’ of not being allowed to go until we heard a final monologue; half in character and half out, it fell flat if it were stand up comedy or was entirely unnecessary as a closing speech.

All in all the first night jitters may have been at work here so hopefully onward and upward. Best performance of the night was Susan Earnshaw and her bemused husband (played well by David Gilbrook) who got the most laughs (especially in the second half).

Not an ideal start to the murder mystery season but if you like a farce, go check it out.
