Friday January 24
Root Down with Major Ruse who are a young hip-hop influenced jazz trio with a rocky, punk edge at Peggy’s Skylight on George Street in Hockley from 7pm; entry is from £6.
Saturday January 25
Trumpeter Tom Syson leads his band at Peggy’s, entry is £10 from 7pm.  Paul Deats plays jazz piano between 12-4pm at the same venue too for afternoon tea.  Lady Bird Jazz AKA Liz Cumberland sings at the Brigitte Bordeaux in Sherwood from 8pm with Steve Rodda on guitar and Simon Paterson on bass.
Sunday January 26
Peggy’s have a concert at 1pm; Sketches of Chet features Simon Paterson on vocals and bass, Thom Whitworth on trumpet and Paul Deats on piano who provide their take on Chet Baker’s repertoire, entry is from £4.  Singer pianist Fiona Stein’s Quartet perform from 1.30-3.30pm at The Lion at Basford.  It’s the Nottingham Jazz Jam Session at Peggy’s Skylight at 5pm – get there early if you want to take part. There’s Jazz in the Bar at the Bonington Theatre in Arnold featuring Joanna Hudson singing with pianist Bob Hudson and his trio; they are performing the music of three ladies of jazz; Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan at 7.30pm, tickets are £6 in advance or on the door.
Monday January 27
The Alfa Big Swing Band returns to the Village Inn in Marehay at 8.30pm.
Tuesday January 28
Dexter’s Jazz Club returns to the Headstocks in Cinderhill and features Ed Marchewicz on tenor sax/flute with Barry Lee on piano, Simon Paterson on bass and Clive Loveday on drums at 8.30pm, entry is £6.
Wednesday January 29
Peggy’s are Sounding Off with multi-instrumentalist Pete Beardsworth who shares songs from his album in progress and collaborates with some of Nottingham’s finest vocalists and instrumentalists. Expect jazz piano, loops and samples, dense woodwind and chamber arrangements. Entry is £5 from 7pm.
Thursday January 30
Jazz Steps present a double bill at the Bonington Theatre; Talinka, who defy boundaries between styles and genres – elements of folk, early music, jazz and tango merge into simplicity, harmony and warmth featuring; Tali Atzmon on vocals, Jenny Bliss on viola da gamba/flute/baroque violin/vocals, Gilad Atzmon on saxes/accordion and Yaron Stavi on bass. They are followed by Gilad’s Orient House Ensemble with Ross Stanley on piano, Yaron Stavi on bass and Enzo Zirilli on drums.  Tickets are £12/5 NUS and music starts at 8pm.  Tony Kofi visits Peggy’s with his tenor saxophone to perform Tenor Legacy wherein he explores material by John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Sam Rivers, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson and Dexter Gordon.  He is joined by Matthew Ratcliffe on the grand piano, Martyn Spencer on double bass and Andrew Wood on drums, entry is from £7.
The Unwin Club in Sutton-in-Ashfield host Washington Whirligig whose music starts at 8.30pm and entry is £7/6 for members.  Nottingham Rhythm Club at The Stadium Leisure Snooker Club, Nottingham Road, Basford have the curiously named New Orleans ensemble Frog and Henry performing from 8-10.30pm, doors open at 7pm and entry is £10/8 for members or £6 NUS. Rachael Pennell sings at the Pelican Club in the Lace Market with Stephen Sheriff on keys from 9pm.
Where no entry fee is mentioned, assume your purchases from the venue pay for the music.
