Review: The Mysterines – Rough Trade Nottingham

  • Being an avid listener to BBC 6music everyday I couldn’t not have heard about the ‘The Mysterines’. Their song, ‘Dangerous’, with its rocky, grungy, Nirvana-esque quality is played at least once by every DJ throughout the day.

A little research and I discovered the ‘Mysterines’ are an up-and-coming band from Liverpool who are creating quite a buzz right now. And rightly so!

After listening to their debut album, ‘Reeling’, I can see why this four-piece are getting all the attention they are. And when I saw they were making an appearance at Rough Trade record store in Nottingham’s Hockley district I jumped at the chance to see them in the flesh.

Held in the upstairs room of the record store I knew it was going to be an intimate evening. And I wasn’t disappointed. Lead vocalist, Lia Metcalfe, oozed confidence on stage as the sound of distorted, grungy electric guitars swirled around her.

Each song was greeted by lively applause from an audience who apparently already have a great fondness for this band even considering they’re new on the scene – a sure sign that this Liverpudlian band have that elusive magic about them which can only bode well for their future.

If you get the chance check them out for yourself!
