Review: The Halle Orchestra – Thriller Film Scores

HALLEJPG

I actually arrived early for once, none of this last ditch mad dash to the start line on a pleasant Spring night for me. The Halle were playing. An orchestra that needs no introduction to any classics fans in Nottingham/The World! The buzz around the lobby was palatable before the show, with queues leading out the door of people desperate to get inside. There was a true mix of young and old with everything in between. Whether you love music or films or both, or even just the nostalgic memories and the awe inspiring visual of a large group of very talented individuals performing in perfect harmony, there truly was something for everyone.

The Conductor was the hugely talented and world-renowned Stephen Bell, who you may know from one of his many live performances on the BBC proms, Queens Jubilee concert or the award-winning Pitch perfect concert at Wembly for BBCTVs Children in Need to name but a few. The concert hall was rammed to the rafters and the excited chatter was a constant roar in backdrop to sounds of the artist fine tuning their tools. The moment our conductor walked onto the stage the crowd hushed into a silent roar and we were off. I will include the full list of scores below but the ones which I enjoyed the most were the Mission Impossible theme tune (Lalo Schifrin), the Incredibles title track (Michael Giacchino), Jaws (Williams, he great literally is the Man when it comes to film scores), Indiana Jones (Williams) and Jurassic Park (Williams again!). The ending. I was sad that the show was ending but worth it just for the last track. I wont ruin the surprise but it truly was a thrilling night of musical perfection.

The show was at the ever-fantastic Royal Concert hall, Nottingham. If you missed them this time, they tour regularly and they are definitely worth seeing as often as you can.
