Review: Dick Venom & The Terrortones – Invasion of the Spider Queen

One of the most exciting, not to mention frightening, bands to come out of the UK capital of music is a B-Movie influenced collection of characters that could have jumped out of the pages of a comic book. In fact, that’s rather close to the truth as this new offering from DICK VENOM & THE TERRORTONES comes with a free comic featuring the band.

Available as a two track download or a three track 7” single, the band have blasted their way back to our consciousness with their first release since ‘Rockin Rollin Vampire Man’. From a melting pot of 1960s garage punk, adding liberal spoonfuls of rockabilly, Invasion Of The Spider Queen demands your attention from the start. Planet Of The HoneyFuzz would not be out of place in The Rocky Horror Show, with its screamed lyrics and if you played Doodlebug Blitz’ to someone who collected rare proto-punk singles, they would offer you thousands of pounds for it thinking it was a missing treasure.

As always with DV&TT, you can taste the sex and sleaze in the air when you listen to these new offerings. It is safe to say that they are not available for children’s parties or family weddings, although that depends on your family!

If Ed Wood made Carry On films, the main character would be Dick Venom!
