The Cuban sun rises in Nottingham this week as Danza Contemporeanea de Cuba takes over the Royal Concert Hall for their new international touring show.

The production ignites the audience with a flavour of Cuba over three acts from the first ‘Reversible’ displaying the playful physicality of Cuban flirtation and courtship. It’s performers shake, twist and spin in an extraordinary, captivating piece of choreography.

The second ‘Listening Room’ looks to be more experimental as the audience hears different music to that of the headphone wearing dancers. Forcing the separation of music and dance and taking the bold step to reverse choreography makes you appreciate the dancers work rate and energy.

The final act ‘Matria Ethnocentra’ the passion and energy reach fever pitch with the theme moving to national pride for the culture as well as a nod back to the struggle to get where they are today. The sometimes militaristic movements are complimented with gravity defying vaults and pure joy of free movement.

Danza Contemporeanea de Cuba are currently touring the UK with a ten venue national tour. Don’t miss it!
