Review: Breakin Convention

Breakin Convention UK Tour 2016

‘Make some Noise’ ‘Nottingham make some noise’ was heard over and over last night by the enthusiastic hosts Jonzi D who is artistic director and founder of Breakin Convention, and his co host ‘Frisco Boogie’ a local hip-hop aficionado.
Nottingham’s Royal Centre two day festival of hip-hop theatre got underway yesterday it included performances, workshops, DJ’s, Graffiti, and Cyphers, according to the programme. For me it was all about the dance performances and we were treated to some interesting, dodgy pieces to outright brilliance.

Hal Mayer a movement artist from Nottingham pushed the boundaries and perhaps needed an age restriction having adult content as it over stepped the decency mark, if there is such a thing. That being said I will remember the performance.
Another local group were the Beatbots and their performance was excellent but slightly spoilt by a group of dancers returning to auditorium. Also included in last night’s show were The Ruggeds from the Netherlands with a piece called Adrenaline, they are a very talented crew.

The outstanding hip-hop theatre came from Iron Skulls co, a dance company from Barcelona, with great use of lighting, costume , contemporary dance and great theatre imagination, the performance was a standout and for this act the audience did actually make some noise!

Breakin Convention from £10 a ticket.
