Preview: Macmillan Fest – Spanky Van Dykes Stage – Saturday 6 September 2014

In the first of our several part Macmillan Fest preview we’re taking a look at the newest venue to join up to the festival, the wonderfully named Spanky Van Dykes will be playing a part in this year’s festival hosting a day of great live music including some great Nottingham acts (and being just a stones throw away from the Rescue Rooms you don’t even have to travel far to check out what is going on).

Doing their thing, on and off, for over a decade TEENAGE CASKET COMPANY are one of Nottingham’s top rock/metal bands and despite lineup changes over the years are still putting out fantastic music that continues to enthrall their fanbase. Always popular on the festival circuit you can expect a fun, exciting set from these guys to wrap things up on the Spanky site.

Mansfield five piece NO HONOUR will be on hand to offer up some melodic hardcore to get you all up on the dancefloor. Currently about to start work on their second EP these guys smashed it up at last years Macmillan Fest and will no doubt be out to top that this year.

PATRIOT REBEL are firm favourites on the Nottingham metal scene, with their blistering, riff led alt rock these guys are a force to be reckoned with, expect Spanky’s to be shaking to it’s foundations when these guys take to the stage.

Alternative rock five piece THESE SKIES always put on one hell of a live show and no doubt you can expect more great rock from these guys on Saturday, and we’d always recommend checking out a band whose keyboard player is named Mango Yordbear!

ENORMITY FALLS are, in their own words, a tri-vocal metal band. Formed in 2012 these guys have been making their mark with powerful, anthemic metal which offer up something different thanks to their use of three vocalists who all compliment each other brilliantly. Their debut EP ‘Voices’ was described by the ace Midlands Rocks as being “fucking good” which is enough for us.

There is definitely a Nottingham-heavy vibe with the Spanky stage – which we love – but there’s also a sprinkling of non-Notts in there, among them London band SHIELDS, a four piece metal band who are about to embark on a European tour while PATH TO PREVAIL will have slightly less distance to travel, the metalcore act hailing from just over the border in that there Derbyshire. Expect a blend of nostalgic metalcore and new age ideas from these guys.

Fellow Derbyshire band VIRTUES will also be performing on the Spanky’s stage offering up a healthy dose of groove metal during the afternoon.

The job of kicking things off, and thus being the first band EVER to play a Macmillan Fest set at Spanky Van Dykes, goes to Nottingham’s very own THREE THIRDS BELOW who combine alt-rock, punk and post hardcore to brilliant effect and will no doubt get Macmillan Fest 2014 off to a head bangingly awesome start.

So there you have it, our preview of the Notts heavy Spanky Van Dyke’s stage which kicks off our Macmillan Fest preview series. Keep your eyes open for part 2 which will take a look at the NCN Rocks Red Rooms stage and our very own NottinghamLIVE.co.uk Acoustic Stage (Rescue Rooms Bar).

Don’t forget, if you haven’t got you ticket for this years Macmillan Fest yet you can get it here and for just £10 in advance – and it’s for a fantastic cause.
