Following the longest unplanned closure in the venue’s history, the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall today announced plans to reopen with a programme of socially distanced events once audiences are allowed to return.

Following an award of £851,604 as part of the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund, the team at the iconic Nottingham entertainment venue have been putting new measures and procedures in place to ensure customers, staff, visiting artists and companies can return to the venue in a safe and Covid-secure way.

Jonathan Saville, Director of Audiences and Programming at the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall, said:We’ve been working in meticulous detail on these plans for a long time now.  Whilst it isn’t possible for us to reopen just yet, we wanted to give people something really positive to look forward to when restrictions are eased again.  Our mission has always been to provide an exciting variety of cultural experiences to entertain and inspire our audiences, and I don’t think that’s ever been more essential, both for our own mental health and for our collective wellbeing.  We know that the experience of coming to a live performance creates a buzz that just doesn’t compare to anything else.  When the time is right for us to reopen, we hope this shared joy is something our audiences, new and old, will come and rediscover with us.  We can’t wait to welcome them back.

Once national lockdown is lifted, and local restrictions allow audiences to return to theatres and concert halls, a carefully curated and diverse programme of socially distanced and streamed events will be scheduled to take place at the venue throughout the winter and into spring 2021. These events will be announced over the coming weeks.

Safety remains the venue’s number one priority.  Forthcoming socially distanced performances will adhere to all current government guidance and local restrictions, including socially distanced seating, electronic ticketing and flexible returns policy, one-way systems, temperature-checking and enhanced cleaning procedures.  For more details on what a socially distanced visit to the venue will look like, please visit trch.co.uk/covid-19-measures
