NottinghamLIFE: Notts children to help decorate giant dress of leaves

Autumnal fashion will take centre stage at Nottingham’s intu Victoria Centre later this month and local children are being invited to get involved.

The giant ‘dress of leaves’ will be making a return to the centre its annual celebration of all things autumn/winter fashion – and will be made up of children’s hand crafted leaf designs.

Little shoppers will be able to take part in special leaf decorating workshops between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September and then again the following weekend, with their designs then included within the beautiful dress that will be on display at intu Victoria Centre for the rest of the month.

Nigel Wheatley, general manager at intu Victoria Centre, said: “Every year we host a series of events to put the spotlight on autumn/winter fashion, which culminates in our brilliant live fashion shows that will take place towards the end of the month (24 September).

“But our fashion event isn’t just for the grown-ups; we really want our little fashionistas to enjoy our events too, so we are inviting them to decorate their very own leaf that will then form part of the dress of leaves, which will be coming back to the centre again this year.

“We unveiled the dress for the first time during last year’s autumn/winter fashion period and were thrilled by how many people got involved and designed a leaf, and we are hoping that we can make it even bigger and better this year.”

intu Victoria Centre has teamed up with local designer Susi Henson  who is helping to put together the showpiece.

She said: “This is a really exciting project that we are hoping the people of Nottingham will get behind again this year and help us to create a really beautiful dress of leaves for display within the centre.

“Not only will it feel beautifully autumnal using rose golds, yellows and burgundy colours, it will also create a real statement in the centre that people will enjoy coming to take a look at, particularly if their children have put their own leaf on it too.”

This activity forms part a national calendar of fashion events at 15 intu centres across the country.

Leaf decorating workshops will take place on 10, 11, 17 and 18 September between 11am and 4pm on the lower mall, outside Monsoon.
