Nottingham’s Music Scene in the Spotlight with Launch of Moonshine Sessions

A collaboration between Gigantic Tickets and Alchemistic music borne out of a shared commitment to live music aims to provide a platform for new talent as well as showcase the best of the vibrant music scene in their home city of Nottingham.

Moonshine Sessions launches today (10 January) with Sleaford Mods performing ‘Stick In A Five And Go’ and ‘Bang Someone Out’ taken from their self-titled EP.

As well as the wilfully obnoxious duo of Williamson and Fearn (aka Sleaford Mods) who have developed their sound in the various venues of Nottingham for over a decade, Moonshine Sessions already features intimate performances from several exciting young artists who call Nottingham home including Georgie, Jimi Mack, Juga-Naut and Daisy Godfrey – as well as national touring artists Banfi, Middle Kids, Titus Andronicus, No Hot Ashes and Husky Loops.

Jason Williamson, Sleaford Mods, said: “Moonshine operates with the local landscape in mind. It doesn’t just brush up to the more established names. It’s clearly connected to Nottingham and I like that. They know their business.”

The joint venture between Gigantic Tickets, Alchemistic music and Jake Bugg’s manager, Jason Hart, has given a diverse mix of artists the opportunity to connect to a wider audience.

Jason Hart said: “This is a match made in heaven. We have the studio set up with some of the most experienced professionals in the industry allowing us to create some really high quality content for new and touring artists while Gigantic has a sizeable audience hungry for new music discovery.”

The completely free ‘no strings attached’ session in a state-of-the-art studio working with top industry professionals would be equivalent to thousands of pounds worth of recording, sound-mixing and video editing services.

Artists have full control of the session where they record one of their own tracks and a cover of their choice working with the inhouse team at the Moonshine studio. The tracks are uploaded on Moonshine along with a bio and a live ticket link and shared with Gigantic’s subscriber database of music savyy users.

Gigantic founder Mark Gasson said: “We know our audience actively turn to us to hear about new artists. This is a great way to give some of the most exciting artists we come across access to the type of recording experience that may be out of reach early on and create some really outstanding and valuable content that could help build their future careers. We also worked on a few sessions with Drowned in Sound to provide additional interview content that is available on its website (www.drownedinsound.com).”

Currently interviews are available for Husky Loops, Titus Andronicus, Sleaford Mods and Middle Kids.

No Hot Ashes Perform Cool Cat for Moonshine

No Hot Ashes manager, Peeps, said: “From start to finish, we had an epic time doing the Moonshine Session. Rofl Studio is an amazing place with a great vibe and great people. We felt right at home and are extremely happy with the end result; the recording and video quality are fantastic. Big thanks to Gigantic and Jason for the opportunity!”

Australian band Middle Kids also took time out of their UK tour to drop into the studio to record their own song ‘Salt Eyes’ from their newly released debut album ‘Lost Friends’ and covered Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. They loved it so much, they even took home a souvenir mug!

Closer to home, Belfast born singer-songwriter Jimi Mack jumped at the chance to record a session in one of the most highly regarded studios in the city and was so delighted with the result that he has chosen to work with them on his upcoming debut album.

Jimi, who relocated to Nottingham, said: “It’s a great piece, the best session video I personally have had the opportunity to do. Moonshine is a welcoming environment run by wonderful people which is obvious from how relaxed I was able to be in the video.

“High quality content is hard to come by for artists and this is a great opportunity to get in touch with potential new fans. It also helps to work with a ticket agency, with the opportunity to pair the video release with any tour dates on sale.”

New content will be uploaded regularly on www.themoonshinesessions.com with a spotlight on a different artist each week shared in the Gigantic newsletter.

Artists interested in recording a Moonshine session should contact the team via the website.
