Montreal singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Leif Vollebekk has unveiled the third song from his forthcoming album ‘Twin Solitude’ (out Feb 24th via Secret City Records). Listen to ‘All Night Sedans’ via SoundCloud or Spotify, ahead of a date in Nottingham as part of his current tour.
Like many songs on Vollebekk’s new record, ‘All Night Sedans’ was inspired by small but impactful vignettes from a life on the road: a sign on a Florida highway, a moment in a favourite TV show, an impassioned Kate Bush listening session. Vollebekk wrote ‘Twin Solitude’ as he was re-calibrating after a time where his own songs just didn’t feel right to him. Opening himself up to the beauty in these small moments proved to be an effective remedy, the bulk of ‘Twin Solitude’ came to him in just one sitting.
Additional tracks from the forthcoming album have received glowing praise from North American critics – NPR proclaimed ‘Elegy’ to be a “devastatingly beautiful” song and Brooklyn Vegan premiered the ‘Elegy’ video, dubbing it “equally striking”, whilst The Fader premiered ‘Into The Ether’, praising Leif’s “passionate Broken Social Scene-adjacent melodies”. The track subsequently shot up Spotify’s USA Viral 50 chart, following ‘Elegy’ which debuted in the Top 15 of Spotify’s UK Viral 50 chart.
Leif released his break-through sophomore album ‘North Americana’ in 2013, and since then has performed at the Newport Folk Festival and shared stages with Beth Orton, Sinéad O’Connor, Patrick Watson, William Fitzsimmons and Sam Amidon to name just a few. His 2010 debut ‘Inland’ was described as “beautiful, memorable and moving” by NPR and “timeless and monumental” by the Independent.
