On Friday March 8 Peggy’s Skylight on George Street in Hockley celebrates 10 Years of YolanDa Brown; the double MOBO award winning female saxophonist and broadcaster known for her delicious fusion of reggae, jazz and soul music.  Entry is £18 standing and £23 seated (plus £5 deposit redeemable on food). Doors open at 7pm and the performance starts at 8pm. Her band are followed  by Dj Daddio and The Jazz Ambassadors from 10pm until late.  Swing Gitan perform at the Pelican Club in the Lace Market from 10pm also.

Back at Peggy’s on Saturday March 9, Paul Deat’s jazz piano accompanies afternoon tea for two (£22) and for one (£12) (free entry for just drinks) from 2-5pm. Guitarist John Illingworth’s quartet features Richard King on sax, Mat Short on bass and Si Potts on drums at Stray’s Coffee in Newark from 3-5pm. Liz Cumberland sings at Rough Trade in Hockley from 4.30pm as part of the Bras not Bombs festival with Elliott Lewis on guitar. American born alto saxophonist Allison Neale’s quartet perform at Peggy’s from 7pm, entry is £10.

On Sunday March 10 soulful singer Suzanne Mellard leads her band at Peggy’s from 1-3pm; entry is £7. Saxophonist Marcus Joseph is joined by with Matt Ratcliffe on keys, Martyn Spencer on double bass and Andrew Wood on drums at The Lion in Basford from 1.30-3.30pm. They all dash over to play the Malt Cross Sunday Session from 5.30pm also featuring singer Helen Gayle as a guest.

The second Monday of the month means it’s time for The Omega Band at The Bell Inn on Angel Row from 8.30-10.30pm featuring Dave Leithead on trumpet, Bob Wilson on trombone, Steve Upton on drums, Ron Spence on bass, Mike Carter on piano and Ian Wheatley on guitar on March 11.

Bebop along to hear Ed Marchewicz play sax and flute with his quartet featuring Barry Lee on keys, Geoff Pearson on double bass and Clive Loveday on drums on Tuesday March 12 at Dexter’s Jazz club in The Headstocks, Cinderhill from. 8.30pm, entry is £6.

It’s jazz discovery Thursday on March 14 at Peggy’s where pianist Matt Ratcliffe’s Triol perform from 8pm, entry is just £5. Guitarist Henry Claude is joined by Marty Spencer on double bass at The Pelican Club from 9pm.

Where no entry fee is mentioned please assume your ample purchases from the venue will support the live music.
