It’s double entendre Friday on February 8 when you can find Thom Whitworth’s Funky Organ at Peggy’s Skylight on George Street in Hockley; Thom will actually be on guitar and trumpet, Paul Deats on organ/keyboard, Dave Shields bass guitar and Stevie Smith drums, entry is £8 from 7pm.
I’m singing standards at Stray’s Coffee in Newark on Saturday February 9 with PRS AKA Steve Rodda on guitar, Mat Short on bass and Si Potts on drums from 3-5pm. Peggy’s host pianist Craig Milverton’s Trio, which features Nick Jurd on bass and David Ingamells on drums. They will be performing a programme of standards, Oscar Peterson numbers and Craig’s own compositions, entry from 7pm is £10.

Brigitte Beraha starts a Nottingham tour singing Brazilian and American Love Songs with John Turville on piano and George Crowley on saxophone at Peggy’s Sunday Brunch from 11am-1pm (brunch for one is £14 and for two is £25). They then do another show at 1.30pm, which is just £7 entry. Ben Martin leads his pack either on guitar or sax at The Lion in Basford from 1.30-3.30pm featuring Andrew ‘Woody’ Wood on drums, Martyn Spencer on double bass and Matt Ratcliffe on keys. It’s the monthly Malt Cross Sunday Session at 5.30pm where Birmingham saxophonist Chris Young is special guest, he has support from Ellie Kennedy on flute plus house band Matt, Martyn and Woody who hot foot it from the Lion.

The Omega Band perform at The Bell Inn on Angel Row on Monday February 11; Dave Leithead is on trumpet, Bob Wilson on trombone, Steve Upton on drums, Ron Spence on bass, Mike Carter on piano and Ian Wheatley is on guitar from 8.30-10.30pm. The Alfa Big Swing Band swing into the Village Inn in Marehay, Ripley from 8.15pm. Jazz Steps present Brigitte Beraha and band at the libraries this week starting at Beeston on Monday 11, then Worksop Tuesday 12, Southwell Wednesday 13 and West Bridgford Thursday 14. Shows start at 7.30pm and tickets (£10/8) are available from the libraries direct .
Dexter’s Jazz Club presents Wendy Kirkland on keys/vox with, Pat Sprakes on guitar, Geoff Pearson on double bass and Clive Loveday on drums on Tuesday February 12 from 8pm at the Headstocks in Cinderhill, entry is £6.

On Thursday February 14 there’s a Valentines special at Peggy’s featuring Triol led by pianist and composer Matt Ratcliffe with Simon Paterson on double bass and Tymoteusz Jozwiak on drums who play originals and standards. Entry is £5 from 7pm.
