Music: Jeanie Barton’s Weekly Jazz Column 27 July – 3 August

School’s out and swing is in on Friday July 27 when the Swingologie Trio perform at the Pelican Club from 10pm to midnight; Richard Smith is on electric guitar with Wayne Jefferies on acoustic guitar and John Coulson on double bass.

Saxist Rick Woolgar joins the house band PRS (Si Potts on drums, Steve Rodda on guitar and Mat Short on fretless bass) entertain at Stray’s Tapas and Jazz in Newark on Saturday June 28 from 3-5pm.

The Footwarmers continue their weekly residency at The Bell Inn on Angel Row from 12.30pm on Sunday July 29.  Following the sad and mysterious closure of the Malt Cross, the Nottingham Jazz Jam Session will be held at the Lion in Basford this week; the first set by house band Andrew Wood’s Trio features Sean Gibbs on trumpet at 1.30pm, they will then carry on until 5.30pm with the jazz jam session so it’s a nice long hang! On Trent Bridge, Barry Lee is on keys with Ed Marchewicz on sax and flute at the Brewhouse and Kitchen from 2-4pm.

Swing Gitan are live at The Bell Inn on Monday July 30 from 8.30-10.30; Elliott Lewis and Wayne Jefferies are on guitars, James Tolhurst is on trumpet and John Coulson is on double bass.

On Thursday August 2 The Savannah Jazz Band visit Nottingham Rhythm Club at The Stadium Leisure Snooker Club, Nottingham Road, Basford from 8-10.30pm, doors open at 7pm and entry is £9, £8 for members or £6 for student card holders.
Where no entry fee is mentioned please assume your liberal purchases from the venue will cover the entertainment.
