20-year-old rising talent LOVEDAY took a strong leap forward with her latest track ‘Superficial Life’. It resulted in her first Radio 1 airplay after Jessie Ware chose to play it on Huw Stephens’ show, adding to previous support from Jamz Supernova, Tom Robinson and BBC Introducing.
LOVEDAY now builds on that moment by sharing her brand new single ‘I Can’t Dance’. Anchored by a fierce bassline which saunters and slaps, the track’s potent rhythmic energy provides the foundations for LOVEDAY’s magnetic vocal to sparkle. Lyrically it’s about losing yourself in a moment and celebrating the life-affirming joy of music – dance like no-one’s watching.
LOVEDAY commented: “From the moment the song started taking form I was obsessed with the groove of the bass and couldn’t sit still. I wrote the lyrics about a feeling of being so consumed by a moment and by music that you don’t care if you can’t dance or look completely ridiculous, you’re just moving in a way that feels amazing without a care about what bystanders may think.”
LOVEDAY wrote the song with producer Pete Lyons at his studio in London.
Hailing from the Midlands, LOVEDAY blends alt-pop, lo-fi and electronic influences with lyrics that explore the growing pains of love, friendship, adventure and finding your place in the world. Her first breakthrough moment came when ‘Breathless (Like This)’ hit #1 at HypeM and was shared by The Chainsmokers. She organically developed her profile with subsequent releases including her debut EP ‘Temporal Experiment, No 1’ and remixes from Initial Talk (Dua Lipa, Perfume Genius) and Sofus Weine.
LOVEDAY’s open-minded passion for music has seen her engage in all kinds of other activities. She writes for other artists, has been a resident DJ at Leicester nightclub Mosh, and recently engaged in an unusual tech challenge for Channel 5’s ‘The Gadget Show’. She competed in a head-to-head music battle with AI deep fake technology to see which of the two would deliver a stronger performance. Naturally she won – as judged by NME’s Jordan Bassett.
