“Rarely has British music sounded so precocious, so packed full of future-facing energy.” Clash

“Vast chasms of reverbed electronic space in which Gavin’s powerful vocal flourishes over a bed of distant percussion.” GoldFlakePaint

“The two-piece easily switch between guitars, keyboards and drums… delivering unwavering, but vulnerable bursts of emotion.” The Line Of Best Fit

Jonny Gavin and Adam Rowley AKA Demons Of Ruby Mae combine guitars, piano sounds and an eclectic selection of electronica sounds with instantly memorable vocal hooks. When they formed in Leicester little did they know that soon they would be signed to record labels from New York to Berlin, listening to their music on hit TV shows and performing to sold out audiences.

Moving to Manchester immersed them in its thriving music scene, opening them up to new ideas. However, it was heading to Paris to write their debut album with Grammy, Brit and Ivor Novello-winning James Sanger, whose previous work with acts such as Faithless and Brian Eno that opened up a new dimension to Demons Of Ruby Mae’s sound. Production came from Dan Willett at Univibe in Birmingham.

The pair write about their personal experiences, and those of the people they’ve met along the way to create songs that resonate and provide a cathartic release for the listener. Their empathetic insight is evident on tracks such as ‘Synesthesia’, which describes the “constant battle to keep afloat and to make a something of yourself throughout your life”, or ‘To Be Adored’ which asks the question “do people do things for their own gain and to be liked or adored or are they selfless?”

While at times melancholic, the overall feeling of the album is one of positivity in the face of adversity, such as on ‘Records’ which is there to “remind you that understanding your faults will make you stronger, and negative experiences will make those positives better.”

Jonny and Adam’s musical chops have seen them support the likes of Kula Shaker, Supergrass, Macy Gray and The Magic Numbers. Their songwriting has been synced on TV shows such as Suits and included in Shazam’s ‘Watch List’ chart.

Debut album Demons Of Ruby Mae is available everywhere October 26th 2018.
