Interview: “My proudest moment has been being played in the background in an episode of Cagney and Lacey” NottinghamLIVE interview Gun.

NottinghamLIVE talk with Gun ahead of their gig at Rescue Rooms in November.

Q. You’re embarking on a U.K. tour in October, with a gig in Nottingham on October

11th. Are you looking forward to getting back out on the road?

A. Yes. We have fond memories of playing Nottingham – Rock City back in the day.

Especially when we had Ugly Kid Joe come on stage and join us to perform!

Q. You’re also playing at a couple of festivals in August (Camden Rocks, and Party

at the palace. How do you find playing festivals compares to playing a normal gig,

and which do you prefer?

A. We enjoy playing festivals because it gives us a chance to play to an alternative

audience and it gives new fans an opportunity to hear the band, maybe for the first time.

However, it’s always great to play our own shows playing our own tracks to our loyal fans.

We always have a great time.

Q.This tour’s pretty special, as Alex (Dickson) your original guitarist will be rejoining

you. How did that come about?

We just asked him and Alex was really up for joining us again. We had a couple of

rehearsals and that was it. Done deal.

Q. Alex rejoining the band is obviously a big deal, and means that this tour will be

especially important to your fans. Are you feeling particularly nervous, or just

excited?

Just very excited because we know it’s going to be great.

Q. Alex – after leaving Gun, you played as a session musician with a number of acts,

notably Bruce Dickinson and Robbie Williams. How did that compare to being in

Gun? Who was the most enjoyable act to play with in that period of your life?

They were all enjoyable in different ways. Bruce was an old school rock singer

who allowed me to re-make him musically on the album that we made, and Robbie

had his ups and downs but more of the former than the latter. It’s difficult to pick a

favourite from those. My proudest moment has been being played in the

background in an episode of Cagney and Lacey. I was 16.

Q. Alex – you also formed a supergroup called Sack Trick whilst away from Gun. Do you have any plans to collaborate with the band again in the near future?

There’s always plans for more Sack Trick. It really depends if that bassist, Chris Dale can

get off his lazy arse. There’s a live album that’s ready to go. The latest plans are that it’ll be

released to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the greatest live album of all time, KISS

ALIVE2.

In the meantime, Sack Trick do a gig every year at Gimle in Roskilde, Denmark each year.

I sometimes go out there to rock with them too.

Q. Who/what would you say you are most influenced by when making music?

We have a wide variation of musical influences. We like anything from ACDC, Aerosmith,

Thin Lizzy to The Foo Fighters, Prince, Blondie.

Q. Are there any bands/artists that you recommend our readers check out?

Alabama shakes – we really like blues rock.. a band called King King from Glasgow.

Q. Last year, you released the album Frantic, which was received well by critics and fans

alike. Are there any plans in the pipeline for a new album at the moment?

Yes. Absolutely. 100%.

Q. You also released a charity single last year, with a cover of Every1’s a Winner

(originally by Hot Chocolate) being released to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer

Nurses. Would you like to do something like that again?

If the opportunity arises we would always support any charity we can.

Q. Why do you think people should come and see you live, and what can they expect

from a Gun show?

When we are on stage we give it everything, 100%. The atmosphere is electric. Playing

the new stuff and old stuff is such a buzz for us and the fans.

Q. Any last words for the fans?

We hope to see you at The Rescue Rooms in October on the 11th in Nottingham
