Hockley Hustle – NottinghamLIVE Stage @ The Lacehouse

hockley_hustle

Unless you’re living under a stone, in which case how are you online? You’ve surely heard of the return of Nottingham’s number one multi-venue charity festival. That’s right, after a three year hiatus, the HOCKLEY HUSTLE is returning and with one heck of a bang.

In the years since it last took place Nottingham has seen its creative community boom and Hockley has been right at the centre of that, home of the Creative Quarter and to an array of venues, hubs and independent businesses it really is the creative heart of Nottingham and on Sunday 19 October it will be awash with the best Nottingham music talent you can find.

A staggering FORTY plus venues are signed up to host gigs for this years festival, with over 400 performers, and all for a measly TENNER if you book in advance. It really is a bargain.

Just about everyone involved in the Nottingham creative community, from Cultural Vibrations to Little Wolf Parade, LeftLion to NottsTV are putting on a stage this year and we here at NottinghamLIVE are pleased to say that we’re among them. We’ll be hosting our first ever Hockley Hustle stage and we’ve got one heck of a line up for you to enjoy.

Coming at you from The Lacehouse, situated off Stoney Street in the heart of the Lace Market, we’ll be bringing you a great selection of music from 3pm onwards.

Kicking things off will be BLUE VULTURE, the band fronted by former Notts Live radio show presenter Bainy Bain – who will also be compering the stage with his former co-host (and NottinghamLIVE Comedy Editor) Andy Haynes. Started up in 2013 Blue Vulture have been making their mark this year with a number of gigs along with the release of their well received debut EP ‘Amateur Tape Recordings’ – check out our review here.

Following Blue Vulture will be PRIME! a rock/alt/post-punk group who’s debut release is out now.

NO! DISCO follow next, a three piece indie-rock combo signed to SoundHub records, having already released a demo EP the band, of whom Nusic said “Edgy, refined Pop-Rock sounds that sound just as good live as in the studio” will be releasing their debut single ‘Your Orange Car’ this month.

Another trio, though they’re currently searching for a new drummer, are THE LUNADOGS, a ragged indie-blues band from who you can expect funky bass lines and head bopping riffs – and possibly a new man on sticks.

Follow The Lunadogs will be a band who are fairly new on our radar. MAASKS (yep that’s with two A’s) are three musicians from London, Cape Town and Toulouse who perform a live fusion of dubstep, jungle, world and indie music to create a vibrant sound.

BAYBO SQUAYBO are fairly new on the scene having formed earlier this year. Featuring former members of top Nottingham bands The Fade and Waters Edge these guys produce a enjoyable and experimental indie type sound that is quickly winning them a fanbase.

One of the hottest products on the Nottingham scene at the moment, FIELD STUDIES are up next, a Future Sound of Nottingham finalist, this four piece released their excellent debut EP ‘Celestial’ earlier this year and have been described by BBC The Beat’s Dean Jackson as “Brilliant and beautiful” and you can find out why on Sunday.

Finally, bringing the curtain down on the proceedings at The Lacehouse are the much loved instrumental-electronica five piece 8MM ORCHESTRA who’s atmospheric rock is sure to bring things to an enjoyable close.

All in all we reckon we’ve got a really cool line up for you at The Lacehouse this Sunday as part of what looks to be a truly stunning festival.

Make sure to grab your tickets – just £10 in advance – for the Hockley Hustle, and help raise funds for four great charities – Framework,  the John van Geest Cancer Research centre, NG7 Foodbank and the Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum.

We’ll have more on the Hustle in the coming days including an overall preview of what’s going on across 40 venues as well as interviews with some of the acts playing the NottinghamLIVE stage.

This is going to be the BIGGEST music festival in Nottingham history, make sure you don’t miss out, head over to the Hockley Hustle website for more information and to purchase your tickets in advance (saving a fiver off the price on the day.)
