Film: Young programmers announce full line-up for Teen Mayhem

Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce four screenings, two CBBC panels and two workshops as part of Teen Mayhem 2015, a weekend of fantasy, science-fiction and horror for young viewers.

 

Now in its second year and building up on last year’s success, Mayhem’s new strand dedicated to young people, is expanding to two days, taking place on 28 and 29 November at Broadway, Nottingham. This year, Teen Mayhem also invited seven 9-13-year-olds to join the team and help curate and organise the mini festival.

 

Teen Mayhem Programmer, Isobel, aged 10, explained why she wanted to get involved: “I came last year and I just wanted to learn all of it and see the magic behind-the-scenes.”

 

Dedicated to pre-teens and young teenagers with a passion for genre cinema and television, Teen Mayhem will include screenings ofCoraline, The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as two exclusive panels around CBBC shows Eve and The Sparticle Mystery, with show creators and cast members, including The Sparticle Mystery creator, Alison Hume and stars Oli Dillon and Abbie Hayes, and Eve creators Emma Reeves and David Chikwe, and stars Poppy Lee Friar and Oliver Woollford, expected to attend the weekend, and two make-up workshops from esteemed special effects expert, Jayne Hyman

 

Teen Mayhem’s seven young programmers have taken part in two two-day sessions over the Summer and half-term holidays to help programme and also learn about curation, and how to organise and host an event.

 

There isn’t enough out there for our age group, explains Sadie, aged 13. Horror genre in cinemas is more for 15-18-year-olds but it’s so much fun to watch.” “There should definitely be more programmes like this one”, said Ava, aged 10.

 

The young mayhemers are now looking forward to meeting their audience and the panelists over the Teen Mayhem weekend: “It’s been great to see how it actually works, said Mae, aged 12. I’m so proud to be a part of it.” “I’ve really enjoyed the

 

programme, added Myles, aged 12. I can’t wait to see the panel and see everybody’s reactions.”
