Down the Broadway – February 2016

With the miserable weather set to continue for the foreseeable there has never been a better time to escape into another world, especially if you are trying to entertain youngsters over half term – Broadway might have the answer.

Throughout half term they will be showing Alvin and the Chipmunks – The Road Chip from Friday 12th through until Sunday 21st at 1:00pm. They also have the usual Saturday Matinees for the discounted price of £3.60, this month there are 3 animations – Song of the Sea on Saturday 6th 2.15pm, Princess Mononoke on Saturday 20th 12.15pm and Snoopy & Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie Saturday 27th 1.45pm (if your child is on the autistic spectrum then there is a special showing of Snoopy at 11am on 27th with tickets only £2 for under 16’s). For those on maternity/paternity leave who may have missed out on Star Wars then have no fear asere will be exclusive showings on Tuesday 2nd at 10.15am and 1.30pm for only £4.80 for adults and your under 1’s can come in with you for free.

As per usual Broadway not only caters for the youngsters but also those slightly older with their Silver Screen showings on Thursdays for only £4.80 with free tea and biscuits. This month it features Youth a bittersweet dtama about a retired composer on Thursday 4th February at 10.15am and 1.30pm. The following Thursday see’s the family favourite tv show of yesteryear come to the big screen, Dad’s Army, but don’t panic if you are younger then you can still see this as it is showing from Friday 5th through until Thursday 25nd. The other two films for the silver screen, Trumbo on the 18th and A Bigger Splash on the 25th will also be showing for the wider audience.

Trumbo is showing from Friday 5th February through until Thursday 18th, it tells to story of when screenwriter Dalton Trumbo and other artists were jailed for their political beliefs. From politics to comedy A Bigger Splash in which Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes display some outrageous behaviour in the Mediterranean.

Towards the end of the month comes another sort of comedy in the form of Bone Tomehawk, a witty western about cannibals featuring the dashing Kurt Russell showing from Friday 19th until the end of the month. Also squeezing itself in at the end of the month is the eagerly anticipated is Marvel Comic’s next instalment Deadpool played by Ryan Reynolds shows from Friday 26th Feb.

Also this February Broadway also celebrates LGBT History Month with screenings of some wonderful films with an LGBT theme. Dressed as a girl – Friday 5th, A Girl at my Door Monday 15th and The Queen of Ireland Monday 22nd.
