Following their 2019 production of Mack and Mabel the multiple-award winning Carlton Operatic Society return to the Theatre Royal Nottingham with the larger than life blockbuster Shrek The Musical from Tuesday 3 to Saturday 7 May.

Based on the story and characters from the Oscar®™ winning DreamWorks Animation Film, this hilarious and spectacular production turns the world of fairy-tales upside down in an all-singing, all-dancing must-see musical comedy.

Join Shrek and his loyal steed Donkey as they set off on a quest to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from her tower, guarded by a fire-breathing, love-sick dragon.  Add the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad, a gang of fairy-tale misfits, and a biscuit with attitude and you’ve got an irresistible mix of adventure, laughter and romance, guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages.

A spokesperson for Carlton Operatic Society, said: “In 2019, we performed Mack and Mabel to critical acclaim, but sadly we had to postpone our 2020 production Shrek the Musical twice due to the pandemic. We are thrilled to return to the Theatre Royal in May this year to welcome everyone to the swamp, and back to live theatre! We have used the enforced gap in performing to undertake the process of becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, a registered charity, which will allow us to progress our objective of promoting and improving education in the art of drama and musical theatrical performance. In 2021, Carlton Operatic Society marked its centenary, and this year we intend to celebrate that milestone which Covid-19 restrictions prevented last year. We will continue producing great theatre, let us hope it’s for another 100 years!”

The cast will be led by Chris Wilson as Shrek, Mark Coffey-Bainbridge as Donkey, Graham Ward as Lord Farquaad, and Charlotte Barrington as Fiona.

The production is directed by Amanda Hall with choreography by Abby Wells and musical direction by Chris Rees.  Cassie Hall is Assistant Director, Vicky Johnson is Stage Manager, and Nigel Newton is Deputy Stage Manager.
