Big City Reads Returns to Nottingham

Young Nottingham readers are advised to keep their eyes peeled this summer for the chance to grab a free book as part of Big City Reads which is back for the first time since 2019 thanks to Nottingham City of Literature. Running from today until 12 August this year there will be four books available – all chosen by young Nottinghamshire readers.

This year’s books are:

Furthermoor – Darren Simpson – a shadowy fantasy novel where imagined worlds and escapism help a young boy deal with grief.

Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry – Joya Goffney – an hilarious rom-com that celebrates the joy of being true to yourself and the ability to change.

The Sad Ghost Club – Lize Meddings – a story of empathy and understanding in the face of loneliness and anxiety.

Punching the Air – Ibi Zoboi & Yusef Salaam – an award-winning novel written in searing prose and inspired Salaam’s own experiences of racial injustice as a teenager.

The free books will be available at a variety of locations across Nottinghamshire, including local creative spaces, cafes, on public transport and distributed by local organisations. You can find regular clues on where the books will be via the City of Literatures various social media streams – including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook

Big City Reads is made possible by the support of the National Lottery through Arts Council England; Nottingham City Council and Nottingham City Libraries..
