BBC Introducing Lockdown Sessions, Industry Q&As and New Material Make Up Top Music Picks for Nottstopping Festival

 

Nottstopping Festival 23-24 May 2020

Dubbed the first virtual lockdown festival to need a clashfinder, Nottstopping Festival coming up this Bank Holiday weekend is packed full of 200 hours of content across multiple streams and 180 events from the worlds of music, art, food, film, theatre, dance and comedy.

Presented by Circle of Light and Hockley Hustle, the festival team have made things easier for music lovers with their top music picks. Don’t forget to download a festival kit from the website to get into the festival vibe, it all kicks off 9am Saturday 23 May, with the full line up now up online.

BBC Introducing

Featuring the rising stars of the local music scene, this BBC Introducing stream curated by BBC’s Dean Jackson has 45 artists performing home lockdown sessions, including Alfie, Babe Punch, Do Nothing, Nactus Kunan, Tori Sheard and Unknown Era.

Light Hustle

With special performances recorded in lockdown, these young emerging artists are relishing the chance to perform for Nottstopping. Artists include Youth Music winner Mae Monypenny plus Tiger, Jah Diggah and Congi.

Bodega in Conversation with Do Nothing

Much loved music venue Bodega is filling the void of gigs with an ‘In Conversation’ talk with Notts rising art-rock combo Do Nothing. Expect to be entertained by the band DIY magazine described as “Straight outta Nottingham with a wiry line in danceable post-punk.” The 4-piece band released their debut EP earlier this year and have toured with Interpol and Baby in Vain in Europe and Kagoule in the UK.

My House Your House

MHYH will be hosting a specially-selected 19-hour non-stop schedule of performers from Nottingham. Loose Joints and Myhouseyourhouse founder, Alex Traska, and DJ partner in crime, Rob Soulfood, kick-off the day in light-hearted fashion from the sofa, with a turntable and the records that have nursed them through lockdown, followed by some DJs who have been lighting up kitchen parties since March and then heading over to DJs in the states for ‘the afterparty’.

Live at Royal Concert Hall

One not to be missed! Live from Royal Concert Hall stage especially opened up for Nottstopping filming, watch the astonishing Kanneh-Mason family give a performance of classical music, including solo piano from Decca artist, Isata Kanneh–Mason plus performances from singer-songwriter Rob Green and Island Records artist Alfie Sharpe.

Metronome: Live Q&A with Everything Everything Jeremy Pritchard

As well as an all day stream of local and international artists from the likes of Snapped Ankles, Melt Yourself Down and TVAM, there will be a live Q&A with bass player of Everything Everything, Jeremy Pritchard. The band have released four top-10 albums and won five Ivor Novello awards. Throughout 2019 he also toured internationally with Foals.

Rough Trade

Rough Trade will be delivering a selection of pre-recorded content from some of their favourite artists over the whole weekend. On Saturday, they welcome a vast selection of Nottingham artists such as Katie Cooper, Velvet Blush and Sancho Panza and on Sunday, look out for Alice Robbins, Soft Girls & Boys Club and Vega Bay.

Dot to Dot

On the very weekend Dot to Dot was set to take place, you can still catch a festival fix with some of the best highlights from the last 15 years.  Their virtual stage will see them dig deep into their archives to host footage from the likes of Wolf Alice, Slaves, Rag’n’Bone Man and many more.

Notts Very Long Songs

Nottingham-based record label Im Not From London has put together a digital album of short songs from Nottingham musicians who responded to the invitation to write and record a 30-second song to help raise funds for key workers. A music video is also in the works with key workers, Nottingham musicians and industry faces singing a line from a well-known song.
